the connections

Tip: It’s often worth flying to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and catching a short, cheap flight to Denpasar.

Tip: Land in Manila and take a cheap domestic flight (Cebu Pacific) to Cebu and the islands.

Tip: Bangkok is very close, many reach Cambodia through it, even overland.

Tip: From Colombo, the surf south (Weligama) is ~2h by car; the tea-country hills, a few hours by train.

Tip: Good connections via the Middle East or through Asian hubs like Singapore and Hong Kong.

Tip: Inside Japan, the bullet train (Shinkansen) links everything with pinpoint precision.

Tip: From Seoul, the KTX bullet train reaches Busan in just over 2h.

Tip: The best hub in the region: from Singapore, Bali, Bangkok, KL and the islands are a short, cheap flight away.

Tip: From Bangkok it is a ~1h10 flight, with departures all day. The night train takes ~12h and many do it for the scenery.

Tip: From Kuala Lumpur it is a ~1h flight, with departures all day. By train, the ETS reaches Butterworth in ~4h.

Tip: Hanoi takes Gulf flights just like Ho Chi Minh. Inside Vietnam, it is ~1h20 from Da Nang and ~2h from the south.

Tip: Almost everyone arrives through Bangkok, a ~1h flight. From Phnom Penh it is under 1h in the air, or ~6h by bus.

Tip: From Seoul, the KTX bullet train arrives in a little over 2h and spares you another airport check-in.

Tip: Kansai takes Gulf flights just like Tokyo. Connecting via Tokyo, the Shinkansen takes ~2h30.
